DC to Harrisonburg 215, Valley TransVA

Don’t have time to ride the full 500+ miles to Damascus? Consider the 215 mile option starting in DC and ending in Harrisonburg, VA. The ride progresses from flatter rail trails leaving the capital to cross the Blue Ridge and Shenandoah River, following the western edge of the Shenandoah Valley along the George Washington National Forest to Harrisonburg.

This is a section of the Valley 520 TransVA route , which continues another 330 miles, to Damascus, VA. Unpaved sections of this route follow the C&O Canal Rail Trail, state-maintained gravel roads and a section of smooth National Forest dirt roads near Wolf Gap. Good for 32-40mm tires. Resupply information can be found on the Valley TransVA page.
